7 Tips to Staying Healthy During Quarantine
1. COMMIT TO INTENTIONAL MOVEMENT 💪
It’s pretty much a guarantee that when you’re forced to stay home, your will find yourself moving around less. If we are all naturally moving LESS each day, it means we are burning FEWER calories than we are used to. So unless we make an intentional effort to get moving, we can pretty much guarantee that we may all be 20 lbs. heavier when it’s all said and done.
Here’s how you can ensure this doesn’t happen to you:
Sign up for an online workout program or routine that allows you to get a solid workout in a relatively short amount of time. Don’t look for PERFECTION, just look for something that you can stay consistent with that only requires a few pieces of equipment. Commit to 3-5 days per week. Whether you’re doing yoga, HIIT, weight training, or cardio is irrelevant. Just pick one that you enjoy and stick with it!
Remember that you can currently access our workouts completely FREE during this “Social distancing” period. Just click this link to download our app and request access: https://linktr.ee/PraxisHealthCo
Find creative ways to include more movement in your daily routine (in addition to your workout program). Whether it’s working in the garden, walking the dogs, doing a home project, or something fun with the whole family, IT ALL ADDS UP. So just remember, movement = calories burned and a CLEAR mind.
2. TRACK YOUR DAILY WATER INTAKE 💧
If you have not already made this a habit, there is no better time than now! It doesn't need to be complicated, and remember that you can put your own spin on it. For example: I like to use a small bottle or canteen and refill 5-6 times per day. My wife loves to use a large jug with 128 oz. marked on the outside. It’s all up to you! Make it something the whole family can commit to together so you can keep each other accountable. We recommend 1 Gallon or more for adults and at least 4 glasses per day for kids!
3. HAVE FRUITS AND VEGGIES AVAILABLE 🥦
Fruits and veggies are the BEST way to quickly boost your immune system and improve overall nutrition. We don’t mean that you need all organic produce or to spend a ton of extra money to make this a priority. You can use frozen veggies to prepare quickly, or frozen berries for a an easily made smoothy. You can also prep a bunch of items ahead of time that you can snack on (carrots, peppers, broccoli, cucumber, apples, oranges, etc.). This will keep you feel like you’re eating PLENTY but not putting you over the top in the calorie margin. You can’t screw this up if you tried, so EAT UP!
4. GET OUTSIDE ☀️
Do not become a hermit! Get outside! Even if it’s just in the backyard, it’s incredibly good for you. Vitamin D has been directly linked to a healthy brain, and if there is one thing we all need to keep during this difficult time it’s a CLEAR MIND! Just remember that we are all basically plants with more complicated emotions. We need food/nutrients, water, and SUN :)!
5. READ A BOOK 📚
One thing that remains true is the importance of reading and how effective it is for SLOWING your mind while promoting CREATIVITY and thought. The great part about reading is that it doesn’t really matter what genre you like or what it is that you enjoy! Your brain just loves you for it! Obviously, stay away from reading that would cause extra anxiety or stress on top of what you’re already dealing with, so just find something you can sink into and ENJOY!
6. LIMIT YOUR TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA 📱
Notice we said “Limit”. When our brains are cluttered and on information overload, it is usually a fast track to feeling anxious and fearful of the future. So head over to your social media outlets of choice: unfollow the accounts that leave you with negative thoughts, and follow those that make you laugh, learn something new, or feel good :)
7. GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE 😃
This is uncharted territory. We are figuring this thing out day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute. This means our schedules, eating habits, daily routine, and comfort zones have all just been completely thrown out the window. So we need to all understand that it’s going to take us getting a little uncomfortable, embracing the awkwardness, and not expecting perfection from ourselves and the ones around us. If you’re used to your typical gym routine and the gym is now closed, just do your best stay on track with some home workouts! If you don’t have access to your favorite healthy food, get creative with what you DO have available to you! It’s kind of refreshing knowing that we are all feeling a little stretched, but we are in this thing TOGETHER. So let’s do our BEST to find the positive in every situation!
